In case you weren't already aware, today marks the annual Don't Step On A Bee Day, an occasion observed on July 10 in the United Kingdom and the United States. As well as serving as a timely reminder not to step on any sting-wielding insects, the day aims to raise awareness about these charismatic and essential pollinators, inspiring conversations about the threats they face and how we can support them.

As one of many species of pollinators, bees serve a vital ecological role in facilitating pollination between plants. They’re very good at it, often spotted zooming around with legs loaded with pollen, but everything from disease, to climate change and human interference is putting their populations at risk.

Take some time to think about ways in which you can support these ecowarriors today, whether that's leaving a patch of garden unmowed or planting wildflowers in a pot, and, whatever you do, don’t step on a bee.
