EUMETSAT/YouTube

Last year was a pretty busy year for weather presenters. Not only was it the hottest year on record, it also saw the likes of Hurricane Patricia and an exceptionally powerful El Niño.

In this time-lapse visualization, you get a global perspective of all the meteorological goings-on that occurred during 2015 – all under nine minutes. A narration keeps you on track throughout the changing of the seasons and helps you follow the wealth of weather systems that swirl around on our little blue marble.

The video comes from the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), an intergovernmental organization that use space satellites to gather data on weather and climate. This particular video uses information from geostationary satellites of EUMETSAT, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Japan Meteorological Agency.
