Elephants are among the most intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom, being one of the few species that is able to recognize itself in the mirror. Known to form very tightly knit and complex matriachal herds, when a calf is born, it is under protection of the entire herd. Studies conducted on elephants also display signs of possible emotional intelligence.
Elephant intelligence was captured on camera when a six-month-old calf was attempting to cross a river and was washed away by swift currents. Thankfully, its mother and the rest of the herd came to the rescue and devised a strategy to haul it to safety.
