There are not many sky scenes more beautiful than those containing a rainbow. Apart from, of course, double rainbows. Imagine, then, gazing up and seeing not one, not two, not even three, but four rainbows! *swoons*
The awesome sight of both double and quadruple rainbows was available to New Yorkers yesterday morning, April 21, thanks to storms that brought heavy rain to the Tri-State area on Monday and Tuesday, CBS New York reports. Tweeters have understandably been boasting their awesome pictures, so it’s worth checking out the site for some cool snaps, like this one taken by Amanda Curtis:
“I didn’t realize how rare it was, I just knew it was beautiful,” she told 1010 WNS.
Although this photo triggered speculation that it was photoshopped, or perhaps caused by a reflection from glass, it appears that it is indeed a genuine image of an exceedingly rare phenomenon. NOAA meteorologist Paul Neiman, for example, stated he is convinced of its authenticity, and has offered a useful explanation for it on his Facebook page.
