Climate change deniers started a new hashtag, #fakeglobalwarmingfacts, over the weekend. Using the hashtag, they started to post what they thought were facts about global warming.
Of course, they were all largely nonsense...
Over 90 percent of climate change scientists believe we're causing global warming. There were also the usual complaints about taxpayers money going towards combatting one of the biggest current threats to our planet.
The deniers using the hashtag seemed to be really pleased with the idea that they were somehow annoying left-wingers.
When really they weren't doing anything other than confidently embarrassing themselves publicly.
Thankfully though, sensible people and scientists did start to make use of the hashtag – and used it to mock the climate change deniers, their beliefs, and their reasoning with much better global warming and climate change "facts" and a healthy dose of irony.
They created funny and absurd fake facts about global warming. Here are some of our favourites.
This comedian claimed that polar bears aren't losing their habitat, they're just swimming a bit more because they like it.
One of the popular fake Donald Trump accounts even got in on the action.
This guy made the biggest global warming lie of them all; that we're all going to be fine.
All in all, Twitter users managed to appropriate the hashtag and drown out the nonsense rather easily, and by the end of the hashtag war most of the tweets were either ironic alternative climate change "facts" or people pointing out to the climate change deniers they were completely wrong, and providing proof why.
In fact, for every nonsense lie about climate change, there was usually at least one scientist or helpful member of the public replying to the poster, linking to an article that showed the true consensus on climate change.
All in all, though it's pretty depressing that we're still having this conversation about climate change, at least the deniers are easily being drowned out by the majority.
