The internet, meet “Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn,” a ludicrously cute rescue puppy with what appears to be a tail growing on its forehead.
And no, before you ask, it doesn’t wag when he’s happy.
Mac’s Mission, a licensed dog rescue center in Missouri, posted a photograph of the puppy saying that he’d just been rescued alongside another older dog. Under the ethos “we specialize in special,” Jackson-based center pays specific attention to dogs with special needs or rare health issues that might otherwise struggle in other over-burdened shelter systems.
“He was rescued in rural Missouri, so many [dogs] get dumped there,” Mac’s Mission told IFLScience. “We save dozens this way. They are always in terrible shape”

Fortunately, he’s now in safe hands and appears to be in remarkably good shape. Mac’s Mission took Narwhal to a local veterinarian who gave him the all-clear, except for some easily treatable worms that are common in rescue puppies.
The vet also carried out X-rays on the puppy in an attempt to uncover the mystery of his unique forehead feature. While the nature of the birth defect remains unclear, the extra tail poses no apparent risk to his health.
“The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy,” the rescue center said in a post on Facebook.
“The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER,” they added.

“Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey.”
Narwhal is not up for adoption just yet, as the team wants to keep an eye on him until he becomes a bit older and stronger. However, judging by the comments on social media, he’s in no short supply of fans.
