In one of those odd moments of life imitating art (well, kind of art), a "monkey-fighting snake" frightened passengers on a plane over the weekend.
The 1-meter-long (3.3 feet) snake was spotted on an internal flight from Torreon in the north of Mexico to Mexico City on Sunday. Passenger Indalecio Medina managed to tweet about the ordeal and even captured a video of the snake slithering out behind the overhead luggage compartment.
“I was reading a magazine and the passenger next to me saw it and, ‘Oh my word!’” Medina told Associated Press (AP) on Monday. "It was a frightening situation... but people remained calm because it didn’t get out of that space and nobody became hysterical. Some people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away,” he added.
The snake eventually dropped to the floor and it was quickly smothered with blankets by a flight attendant, AP reports. The plane was given priority landing when it was coming into Mexico City. After touch down, animal control staff from the airport came to remove the unexpected traveler.
Fortunately, it looks like it all ended well, with Samuel L. Jackson not having to shout one curse word or fire a single bullet.
