Nature can be beautiful, awe-inspiring, and majestic, but sometimes it's just downright ridiculous. The ever-brilliant Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards has just released the shortlisted finalists for their 2021 competition.

The final 42 images include a host of hilarious characters from the natural world, including photobombing polar bears, desperately grumpy birds, and an extremely dorky dragonfly. There’s also a video category featuring a front-flipping swan and grumbling waterbirds.

They’re also opening voting for the People’s Choice Award, offering you the chance to vote for your favorite funny photo. The public can cast their vote at comedywildlifephoto.com until October 12 2021 and be in with the chance of winning an iPad. The winners will be announced on October 22, so keep your eyes peeled.

“We were overwhelmed with the number and quality of entries we received this year, with well over 7,000 photos submitted from every corner of the globe. It was an amazing turnout, especially given the impact of the pandemic,” Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE, Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards Co-Founder, said in a statement.

“The huge number of images we receive every year illustrates the appetite there is to engage with conservation and reminds us that wildlife truly is incredible and hilarious and, we must do all we can to protect it,” added Joynson.

Check out a selection of the best images below. For more meme-able animals, the finalists of last year's competition can be seen here.
