Please sign in or subscribe to access the full content.Although the persistent myth that snakes dislocate their jaw is completely untrue, the way they actually manage to swallow things so much larger than themselves is still pretty incredible; unlike mammal jaws' that are built for chewing and ripping, a snakes jaw is not connected by bone, but by a complex network of tendons, muscles and ligaments that give them their flexibility and allow them to swallow prey considerably larger than themselves.
