Rats get a pretty bad rap from most, especially considering they’ve been let off the hook for the Black Death. But as it turns out, these rodents are capable of some pretty strong maternal instincts.

Rojas Montecinos Evy managed to come across a snake with a small live rat in its jaws. Unfortunately for the ratnapping snake, the rat’s mother was in hot pursuit. The mother rat bit the snake, which was considerably larger, until it dropped its would-be lunch and slithered away into the undergrowth. The mother then picked up the young’un and they returned to their daily business.
