The Internet Is Loving The Greta Thunberg Helpline For Adults Angry At A Child

Greta Thunberg, 16-year-old climate change activist, faces a surprising amount of vitriol from fully grown adults for not wanting the Earth to become uninhabitable for humanity.

As well as masses of support (she's started a movement that just last week led to the largest global climate strike in history), she has been subject to abuse and trolling from anonymous Internet trolls and prominent (and controversial) media figures alike. You'd hope that people would temper their language when talking about someone who is still only a 16-year-old child, but that has not been the case, and she's been subject to jokes about her appearance, her delivery of speech in a second language as a child on the world stage, been mocked by the president of the USA, and even likened to a nazi because she braids her hair.

She has rarely responded to the trolls, except in this one thread which is more well thought out and mature than what a lot of her opponents have thrown at her.

Well, now she doesn't have to worry about any of the abuse as a group of comedians have come up with a solution: The Greta Thunberg Helpline: For angry men who need to yell at a child.

"Hi, I'm a middle-aged man with an embarassing problem," the fake advert begins. "I get irrationally angry at a Swedish girl who wants to save the planet. Luckily, there’s now a number I can call. If you’re a grown adult who needs to yell at a child for some reason, the Greta Thunberg Helpline is here to tolerate you."

In the sketch which has been heavily praised on Twitter, friendly call center staff take the abuse so that the adults don't have to destroy their keyboards angrily typing out their responses to a child for asking the world (politely) to reduce their carbon emissions.

"She's just fueling needless anxiety," one seething man tells the helpline. "She's making the end of the world sound like it's the end of the world."

The idea was a hit with Thunberg, who shared it with her followers.

It's a shame it's a joke, as the world might actually need this.

"So before you go full CAPS LOCK in an article comments section, let our expert counsellors assess your situation. We'll listen no matter how ridiculous you sound. It's OK, we understand that children acting like adults can make adults act like children," the advert concludes.

"The Greta Thunberg Helpline: Because we know when it comes to climate change, she's the real problem."
