Created by the German company Electric Brands, the eBussy is an electric bus with interchangeable modules that allow it to transform into over 10 different vehicles, from a pickup truck to a camper van to a dump truck. It's basically a Transformer. However, the vehicle has gained attention online for another reason, with its name being similar to gay slang for a butthole.
In addition to the hilarious name, the eBussy is actually an interesting and innovative new vehicle. The variety of modules that can be swapped in and out of the chassis are based on the “Lego principle”, giving the eBussy versatility that’s hard to be topped. The Camper module even includes a sunbathing area, TV, refrigerator, hob, fresh water tank, and sink. It comes with eight battery modules, but has space for up to 24 depending on how long you want to drive the eBussy. There will be both a standard and an offroad version, with more ground clearance and a modified chassis so the vehicle's body can handle rougher outings.
The eBussy is also very environmentally friendly. Charged like other electric vehicles in 3-6 hours, solar panels in the roof generate up to 13 kWh per day, allowing it to drive up to 200 kilometers (124.3 miles). On a full battery charge and with solar modules it can do 600 kilometers (373 miles). It is 98-99 percent recyclable, made of materials such as natural fibers, wood, steel, composites, recyclable plastics, and aluminum.
Despite a low weight of 450/600 kilograms (992/1323 pounds), the eBussy can take a large load of up to 1,000 kilograms (2,205 pounds). When in its van form, it can accommodate three people at one time. According to the eBussy website, its maximum speed will be 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour. If you want to take a ride on the eBussy, test drives will be available in Europe from Autumn 2021, opening up to the rest of the world in 2022. A bigger XL eBussy is planned to drop in early 2023.
Electric Brands seems to be aware of the jokes surrounding its naming choice, maintaining that eBussy is short for “electric bus system”. Even though this NSFW name seems to have been an oversight, it has definitely drawn more attention to the eBussy.
