A red wine during these hot summer days does sound like the perfect treat. Soaking in an entire bathtub of the stuff might not be as delightful.

The "healing" benefits of such a treat are being hailed by expensive spas, such as the one New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire frequents, supposedly as antioxidants in the red wine eliminate reactive molecules, called free radicals, within the body that can damage proteins and DNA.

The latest video in the C&EN’s Speaking of Chemistry series dissects the "science" behind these sumptuous red wine baths with Matt Davenport taking a chilly dip in the finest box wine.
