He’s known for his insights into spacetime, black holes, and humanity. But when Stephen Hawking isn’t pondering the great questions of our cosmic existence, his other passion is music.

In anticipation of his upcoming Radio 4 Reith Lectures, the BBC has released a psychedelic animation that delves straight into the mind of one of the world’s most famous physicists.

This kaleidoscopic trip was created by Aardman Studios – the plasticine-fueled geniuses behind Wallace and Gromit, Morph, and “Flushed Away.” Although Hawking takes the starring role, it features some apt cameos from Carl Sagan, Professor Brian Cox, and theoretical physicist Andrew Strominger.

The video’s director, Will Studd, said on the Aardman website: “I wanted to create a stylised version of the graphics I grew up with in the '80s. I loved the kitsch futurism of the BBC’s TV version of Hitchhiker's Guide graphics, or the weird spacey covers of Omni magazine; I wanted to bring a bit of this back to explore Stephen’s thoughts.”

Give it a watch below.
