Mercury is a curious element. Its most well-known feature is that it is a liquid at room temperature. This is surprising since our instincts tell us that metals are solid.

Mercury is also an extremely dangerous element. Being exposed to even a small amount of it can cause visual impairment, a 'pins and needles' sensation and muscle weakness.

So, naturally, YouTuber user Taofledermaus decided to fill a balloon with mercury and create a slow-motion video of the balloon being popped. Definitely a job for the experts!

The final video shows how a drop of mercury flows when it hits a surface. It is as beautiful and mesmerizing as it is dangerous.
