There has been a rise in Google searches over the last few days, for several combinations of words that normally receive precisely zero traffic. Search terms like "skin peeling after period" and "skin peeling off after period" have seen huge increases since May 11.

Thankfully, this is not due to a sudden new horror that 2021 has been holding back to unleash on us in May, but due to quite a good TikTok that's been a little too convincing to some.

-

TikTok user dfinkk posted a video to her page under the caption "throwback to when men didn't know we had to peel off layers of our skin after our period", and "how did men not know this wtf??"

-

The video might not have been too convincing by itself, but many, many women played along and "confirmed" in the comments and on Twitter that this was a thing, and it happened every time they have a period. Men, meanwhile, showed their confusion.

To be absolutely fair, it wasn't just men who were confused.

For anyone still unsure, we can categorically state that peeling off a layer of skin is not something you do during your period. Women are not snakes.
