Fake car. SpaceX

You’re never going to believe it, but flat-Earthers think SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy launch the other day was fake. Shocking I know, right.

Yes, while most of us were pretty impressed by the launch, and somewhat divided about it sending a car into space, others didn’t think it happened at all. They’ve got precedent on this, mind. Most flat-Earthers think rocket launches are hoaxes, and Elon Musk is a fraud. Some even think SpaceX's rocket landings are actually launches shot in reverse, which is amazing.

“People who believe that the Earth is a globe because 'they saw a car in space on the Internet' must be the new incarnation of 'It's true, I saw it on TV!'” the Flat Earth Society wrote on Twitter.

“It's a poor argument. Why would we believe any privately-held company to report the truth?”

I’m still not 100 percent convinced this Twitter account isn’t someone just having a laugh, but they’re certainly very nice in their tweets. On this topic they told people to think for themselves, not believe everything they read, and so on and so on.

The Flat Earth Society is not to be confused with, uh, The Flat Earth Society, an organization of the same name that boasts more than 500 members. Last year it held a conference and, yeah, it was pretty bizarre.

“Okay officially, Elon Musk, anything that man says is an outright lie,” one speaker, Mark Sargent, said to an agreeable crowd during one of the talks. “Elon Musk just pulls crap out of his butt on a weekly basis.”

Fake launch. SpaceX

I don’t quite get all the Musk hate to be honest. Previously The Flat Earth Society (the first one not the other one) told Musk that it thinks Mars is round, whereas Earth is flat. Or something.

Anyway, it seems one of the issues with this latest launch is that the images of Musk’s Tesla Roadster from space didn’t show any other satellites or the International Space Station (ISS). That’s, you know, because space is big. And satellites are small.

Fake landing. SpaceX

The other Flat Earth Society had an issue with the steering wheel of the car apparently not being round. “Really cool how the @Tesla roadster has an oval steering wheel,” they tweeted. “Another amazing innovation from 'genius' @elonmusk. One can only imagine what shape the wheels are!”

No, I have no idea what they’re going on about either.

Anyway, Musk’s Tesla Roadster (steering wheel and all) is now on its way to the orbital plane of Mars, on an orbit that may last a billion years. Or is it? Yes.
