From altruistic daydreamers to short-tempered narcissists, each of us has our own pick ‘n’ mix composition of traits, temperaments and quirks. The International Personality Item Pool is considered one of the more thorough and established personality tests out there.

Of course, a 20-minute test can't even begin to capture the diversity of different people out there, and having test-takers answer the questions themselves introduces its own set of biases. However, it can still be fun to explore the way in which personality is measured. Best of all, you can take the test online in under 20 minutes.

According to the test, your personality comprises five main personality traits called the “Big Five.” These traits are: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Open to Experience. The categories are then split into six more precise sub-groups. For example, “Open to experience” is split into imagination, artistic interest, emotionality, adventurousness, intellect, and liberalism.

Your results are based on how much you agree or disagree with an array of statements on a five-point scale.

After you answer the questions, you’re given a breakdown of how you fit into all the different traits and how they translate into everyday life.

There are actually two tests you can take. One consists of 300 questions that takes less than 40 minutes to complete, while the other has just 120 questions that you can do in roughly 15 minutes. Although, I wonder if your choice of test says anything about your patience…
