Blorp, Znarg and Gfwmf all walk into a space bar... Kurz Gesagt/YouTube

Earth – it’s a pretty sweet deal that we’re on this one habitable planet in our solar system. But this can’t be the only one in the universe, so how have we not yet been in contact with any other lifeforms?

This is the basis of the Fermi Paradox – the contradiction between the high probability of many other civilizations in the cosmos and our lack of contact, or evidence of such contact, with them.

“The universe is unbelievably big – trillions of stars and even more planets. Soo… there just has to be life out there, right? But where is it?,” Kurz Gesagt asks, exploring the Fermi Paradox. “Why don’t we see any aliens? Where are they? And more importantly, what does this tell us about our own fate in this gigantic and scary universe?”

Watch these beautifully animated videos from Kurz Gesagt’s In A Nutshell series to understand the Fermi Paradox and to explain why we’ve not yet met our alien neighbours.
