In celebration of the Scripps US National Spelling Bee, the data-crunchers over at Google Trends have developed this map of the United States, which shows which word followed the sentence “how to spell... “ in their searches for each state. They also went to the effort of color coding the map by how many other states were baffled by the spelling.

Among the regular trouble makers were "pneumonia," "cancelled," "desert", and "gray." But best of all, take a look at Massachusetts, whose most queried word was for the spelling of their own state.
