Although centered around Washington, DC, the march gave rise to over 600 other rallies across the world, from Svalbard in the Arctic Circle to Blantyre in Malawi.
Riding on the success of the Women's March, the March for Science started as an online discussion among scientists worried about the Trump administration's policies on climate change and their perceived hostility to fact-based evidence. It came together as a non-partisan event celebrating and standing up for science, which drew crowds in the hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life (although don't ask us about crowd sizes).
Along with its message and unprecedented scale, the march will also undoubtedly be remembered for its irreverent, nerdy, creative, clever, and downright hilarious signs:
