A so called tipster with "in-depth knowledge regarding Samsung’s plans and the industry, in general" has caused a stir by claiming that the company is going to release a foldable smartphone in January 2016.

The tipster claims that the handset is undergoing testing in two configurations, one with a Snapdragon 620 SoC and the other with a Snapdragon 820 chipset. Both handsets will supposedly have 3GB of RAM, an inbuilt SD card slot for additional storage and a built-in non-removable battery.

LG Display has already achieved a foldable, rollable display screen, showcased in Korea in August, and with Samsung not far behind in bendable technology, could there be some truth to the tipster's claims?

Samsung reportedly told the Daily Mail it doesn't comment on rumor or speculation, so it looks like we may have to wait a few months to find out if the rumors are true.
