You knew what you were doing when you clicked on this link.

Sure, you wanted to know what everyone’s favorite color is, but you know whatever the answer was dramatically revealed to be, you’d make this noise: “oh”. You’d shrug and get on with your life. You wouldn’t be particularly enlightened.

The Earth will continue to orbit the Sun. The President will continue to Tweet nonsense. Somewhere, a cat will meow, and a dog will bark at it. Paint will dry, and grass will grow. That InspiroBot will continue to churn out nefarious and sinister quotes with inappropriate background images.

So, here we go. Prepare to be disappointed.

The world’s favorite color, ladies and gentlemen, is Marrs Green. It’s a blue-green shade that’s reminiscent of shallow aquatic environments. It’s fairly innocuous and serene. It’s named after Annie Marrs, a UNESCO worker and fine arts graduate from Dundee in Scotland who conjured up the hue to compliment the tones of the River Tay.

It’s inarguably quite a nice color. Most commentators appear to see it as more green than blue, but saying it’s blue is not deemed to be incorrect by color experts. One such professional explained that it is almost a "teal color," and perhaps more "aqua" than others were suggesting.

The competition was instigated by a shadowy organization working behind the scenes at Hull, a city in England that’s also the UK City of Culture in 2017. A while back, surfers of the Web could explore a website with a near-infinite number of color palettes and pick the one they considered to be the most aesthetically pleasing.

In total, around 30,000 people across 100 countries took part, and most of them voted for Marrs Green – or at least, that was the “average” color that most people’s choices orbited around. The final result was, rather satisfyingly, announced by Hull 2017 Chief Executive Martin Green – no relation.

The color’s progenitor told the Telegraph that “it's an absolute privilege to have a color named after me. It’s been a surreal experience but a very special one and quite overwhelming at times.”

Miss Marrs says that she has always had a penchant for blue/green/teal colors, so this new shade is definitely sitting somewhere in that spectrum. It's precisely location, however, is anyone's guess at this point.

So, there you go. How do you feel? Enlightened? Has everything you thought you knew been thrown into doubt?

More importantly, perhaps, is this new color more green, or blue? Answers, as always, in the comments, dear readers.
