A UFO organization launched by former Blink 182 frontman Tom DeLonge says it has in its possession "groundbreaking metamaterials" unknown to science.
The materials, he claims (in all caps) in an Instagram post, came from "UNIDENTIFIED VEHICLES", though he and his organization To The Stars Academy have not yet offered proof of this or any of their other out-of-this-world claims.
"We have been able to establish that the material shows highly advanced and anomalous engineering capabilities," DeLonge, most famous for hits such as Apple Shampoo, said in an enigmatic Instagram post alongside what appear to be photos of the material.
"This acquisition will allow us to expand the scope of our ADAM Research Project and accelerate R&D that could lead to numerous aerospace and engineering breakthroughs."
Over several posts, he showed off low-res images of the material.
"The structure and composition of these materials are not from any known existing military or commercial application,” COO of the organization Steve Justice said in a statement. "They've been collected from sources with varying levels of chain-of-custody documentation, so we are focusing on verifiable facts and working to develop independent scientific proof of the materials' properties and attributes.
"In some cases, the manufacturing technology required to fabricate the material is only now becoming available, but the material has been in documented possession since the mid-1990s."
People have been somewhat skeptical, as you'd imagine. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, and what we have so far is a low-res picture of what looks like a rock tweeted by a former rockstar.
People have asked why they would tweet such a low-res image, or a stock image, when what you'd likely want if you had discovered potential unearthly materials is as many eyes as possible to rule out any earthly explanations.
Nevertheless, the organization has gone big with claims about the material of unknown origin.
“If the claims associated with these assets can be validated and substantiated, then we can initiate work to transition them from being a technology to commercial and military capabilities,” said Justice.
“As noted in our October 2017 TTSA kickoff webcast, technologies that would allow us to engineer the spacetime metric would bring capabilities that would fundamentally alter civilization, with revolutionary changes to transportation, communication, and computation.”
A previous post by To The Stars Academy suggested that the material was Magnesium-Zinc-Bismuth.
Similar materials have made their way around the UFO circuit, author and writer for Skeptic magazine Jason Colavito wrote in a blog post when a similar sample surfaced in 2018. A possible suggestion as to what the "UFO" material could be, he documents, is that its good old-fashioned industrial waste.
“The combination of bismuth and magnesium had eluded us for four years. But then one day, we found a reference to an obscure industrial process used in the refinement of lead. The process, called the Betterton-Krohl Process, uses molten magnesium floated over the surface of liquid lead. The magnesium sucks up, or pulls bismuth impurities out of the lead."
Dammit.
