You may or may not know that earlier this month a giant black sarcophagus was discovered in Egypt but here is a quick recap anyway.

Please sign in or subscribe to access the full content.Archaeologists were in the middle of a dig in the Sidi Gaber district of Alexandria when they came across a rather large, rather black granite sarcophagus. At 2.65 meters (8.7 feet), it is the longest that has been found in the area – and what's even more intriguing, it has remained entirely intact. The seal between the lid and the body of the sarcophagus has not been broken, meaning that whatever is in there has been there since the Ptolemaic period (323 BCE to 30 BCE).
Which begs the question, do we open it to find out what is inside? Or let sleeping demons lie? Anyone who has ever watched the classic adventure film that is The Mummy knows that this is exactly how the apocalypse starts. And lest anyone forget, today is also Friday 13.
Of course, this little fact has not gone unnoticed on Twitter.
Lots of people are making The Mummy references.
But to be honest, it's not just The Mummy. It's any disaster movie ever.
Of course, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark was mentioned.
But as author Nick Moseley pointed out, it is not too late to turn back.
Some people have been quick to add that it is 2018 and can things really get any worse?
Maybe, just maybe, the black sarcophagus can help us escape the timeline.
Others are clearly done with humanity and think we deserve whatever monstrosity is unleashed.
We say let's open it, and do exactly as these people suggest. Let's face it, he's our best hope for humanity.
Joking aside, from an archeological perspective it would be fascinating to find out what is inside. After all, the chance of a vengeful demon rearing its ugly head is extremely low.
