Last week an event was set up on Facebook to "storm Area 51 and see them aliens". The plan is that on September 20, 2019, all of the 1 million members of the event will show up at the military base and "naruto run" at it, with the genius assumption that they "can't stop all of us". (In US parlance this means they can't shoot everybody.)
The plan has taken off in a big way, with the Internet gleefully making memes about how they're going to storm the military base, what they expect to find there, and precisely how they are going to party with the aliens they rescue afterwards. Here are some of the funniest.
Let's start with possibly my favorite, this guy dressed up in some sort of cyborg suit giving the 2019 equivalent of the Martin Luther King "I Have a Dream" speech.
There were many jokes on how the idea to storm Area 51 was not a joke, but an actual plan that people were willing to go through with.
And what the plan should be and how it might play out.
Some of which were a little too realistic.
There were many jokes about how we're going to party with the aliens post-rescue. At least everyone seemed overwhelmingly positive that the experience will be friendly and we'll all get along.
And just memes about general confusion surrounding the whole event.
