The earliest known manual describing the ancient Egyptian art of mummification has been found, and it even covers the detailed procedure for embalming a dead person's face, listing ingredients and recipes. Mummification manuals are so rare there were only two known in existence before this. The new one predates both by a whopping 1,000 years, describing grisly practices that were carried out 3,500 years ago.

Nearly 2-Meter Glow-In-The-Dark Shark Is Largest Known Luminous Vertebrate Yet
Three new glow-in-the-dark sharks have been identified off the coast of New Zealand, and one is the largest glowing vertebrate known to science. The sparkly specimen in question is the kitefin shark, which alongside two other deep-sea sharks has been found to glow blue under ultraviolet (UV) light. Living in what is known as the “Twilight Zone”, kitefins grow up 1.8 meters. Its glow-up pals, the black belly and southern lanternsharks, are comparably diddy and not as bright.

Scientists Discover Earth’s Polar Regions Have "Space Hurricanes"
It may sound like the premise for a CGI-laden disaster movie but scientists have discovered “space hurricanes” are a thing. Not just space hurricanes, but space plasma hurricanes. This is a new type of weather phenomenon that occurs high above Earth’s polar regions. Researchers discovered a 1,000-kilometers-wide structure of swirling plasma above the North Pole in data from 2014. It sent electrons whizzing to Earth, causing an 8-hour aurora during what should have been a geomagnetically calm time.

Orangutans and Bonobos At US Zoo Are First Great Apes To Get COVID-19 Vaccine
Orangutans and bonobos at San Diego Zoo have become the first great apes to receive an experimental COVID-19 vaccine designed for animals. Earlier this year, a troop of gorillas at San Diego Safari Park became the first great apes in the world to test positive for the disease. The great apes have received two doses of the vaccine, and the Zoo is now eyeing its big cats, which are also vulnerable.
