1523 How You Can Help Make A Movie About Bill Nye
The Bill Nye Film.

Bill Nye is much more than just a science guy. Nye educates, acts, writes and sciences, all the while helping us to explore space as the CEO of The Planetary Society and bluntly advocating the urgent need for action against climate change. He’s on a mission to change the world for good and help the population become more scientifically literate and engaged.

A busy bee he may be, but you’ll soon be able to keep up with his noble and endearing endeavors, as a duo of documentary filmmakers (and die-hard fans of Nye, of course) have teamed up to create what promises to be an awesome movie about the beloved educator.

Described as “A film for science. A film for the cosmos,” David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg are ready to stalk Nye around the globe as he campaigns for space policy, launches the eagerly anticipated solar sailing spacecraft, chills with pal Neil deGrasse Tyson and debates with climate change deniers, to name just a few.

“This film is more than just a portrait of Bill Nye, his past and present – it's about science literacy,” Sussberg tells IFLScience. “Bill is fighting for an enriched scientific awareness amongst youth and the public at large... Bill longs for a future where today's new generation is intellectually equipped to explore nearby planets, develop sustainable energy, and cure formerly untreatable diseases.”

While the pair have already got the ball rolling and gathered a zealous posse, they are calling on the public for one final boost. They need to raise $650,000 to make sure it happens, covering things like hotels, plane tickets and all of that post-production stuff like animation and editing.

And it looks like they may be well on target to snaring this sum of cash, as supporters have already donated an impressive $443,000 and counting onto their Kickstarter page. But there are still ten days to go, and if you want to see this movie come to fruition, then dig deep into those pockets and pledge a few pennies. And think again if you believe that contributing to the production of a movie is not worth your wallet: "We want the film to be [a] megaphone for Bill's causes: climate change mitigation, space exploration, advocacy for getting more women in STEM and just science literacy in general," Sussberg says.
