Since Elon Musk and Grimes appeared together for the first time at the 2018 Met Gala, Twitter has been in love and appalled but mostly confused by this odd pairing who first bonded over an obscure joke about Rococo Basilisk. Now, in the latest Grimes-Musk (Grisk?) news, the indie music darling has announced she plans to legally change her name to – wait for it – the speed of light symbol c, officially confirming the pair's status as the world's nerdiest couple.

That's right. Grimes, formerly known as Claire Boucher, will soon be called c Boucher – keeping the first name lower case and italicized, of course. But fans need not worry as she will be keeping her stage moniker Grimes.

-

Claire, she explained, has been "the bane of [her] existence since [she] became sentient”. This is down to a speech impediment that makes the name hard to pronounce. c, she says, "will be much better".

Declaring the news on Twitter, Grimes wrote, "claire has been the bane of my existence since i became sentient... i can barely say it w my speech impediment altho c is technically worse 4 lisp”.

-

So, now you might be wondering, does Grimes' new bf Elon Musk, who you might also know as the billionaire techie responsible for company's like Tesla, SpaceX, and the Boring Company, have anything to do with this recent development?

After all, there have already been a few eyebrows raised over the choker Grimes (or c) wore to the Met Gala, which the couple co-designed and looks suspiciously like the Tesla logo. But while Musk has been supportive of her decision, friends have been calling her c for a while. However, she did add, Musk thinks the new name "rox".

She replied to a user asking if it was Musk's influence by saying, “been trying 2 change name 4ever but couldn’t find a gud 1, but my friends call me c”.

-

Grimes wouldn't be the first to legally change her name to something a little, ahem, more unusual. Names people have picked in the past include Optimus PrimeKing Arthur Uther Pendragon, and Captain Fantastic (or, if you want the long version, Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined).

In 2007, a Chinese couple even attempted to name their son “@”, which apparently sounds similar “love him” in Mandarin.
