Each year, Edge.org poses a thought-provoking question to a bunch of brilliant minds from a range of disciplines such as philosophy, theoretical physics, psychology and evolution. This year, the question was “What scientific idea is ready for retirement?”

175 essays and 129,000 words were put together into a book that is due to be released in February next year, but if you fancy a sneak peek a selection of answers has been put together in a four-minute hypnotic montage by filmmaker Jesse Dylan. It really is worth a watch, and it will get you thinking:
