Please sign in or subscribe to access the full content.A typical MRI is only able to acquire about 10 frames per second. “The technique captures MRI images at a far faster rate than any other MRI technique in the world,” the video description from Beckman Institute states. “This dynamic imaging is especially useful in studying how rapidly the tongue is moving, along with other muscles in the head and neck during speech and singing.”
The basis for this technique was developed by computer engineering professor Zhi-Pei Liang and his group at Beckman Institute. Brad Sutton and his team then further developed it to make high-speed vocal imaging possible. The new technique has been published in the journal Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
