Even Nintendo has its fair share of NSFW elements in its games. In Super Mario Tennis, people noticed that Luigi is anatomically correct, and even set to work calculating the size of his – how can we put this delicately? – "chain chomp".

Maybe Luigi always had the bulge, but Nintendo just didn't have the raw computing power to do it justice until now?

Unfortunately, Nintendo has also had problems policing its platforms to stop other people using them to insert their own NSFW elements. Just like Minecraft had to employ full-time workers to stop people creating giant penises out of wood, Nintendo had to police their 3DS to stop people drawing rude pictures in their chat system.

So far, so tame. Nobody will be that badly shocked by a badly-drawn penis, which could probably pass as a badly-drawn Bowser or Mario wearing a bee costume.

But Redditors have now spotted a hack of Super Mario Odyssey that is much more graphic in nature, and they're concerned for the children who may see it. Spotted by Redditor ewasion, it appears as though some people are modifying their own avatar in order to post pornographic images into the game.

In a new mode, Luigi's Balloon World, players hunt for a balloon that's been hidden somewhere in the level, Niche Gamer reports. The balloons have the avatar of users playing the game at the time, which are meant to be chosen from a limited selection of Nintendo characters or Mii avatars (cartoon characters created by the gamers).

However, according to Redditors, someone has managed to insert their own picture in there instead (see another example here) meaning that users have been searching for a balloon with pornography plastered on the side.

"It seems hackers have found a way to insert indecent content into our children's games," ewasion wrote. "It seems to be an issue with users' profile pictures. The picture was changed several times over the course of my time patrolling, each picture being pornographic content."

"There are multiple of these balloons all being made by the same user."

Other Redditors speculate that they're deliberately testing Nintendo security.

"The people doing this are probably trying to get banned," Redditor SwimmingTerm wrote. "They're doing this to fuck with people and possibly to send a message to Nintendo about security. Not saying they shouldn't be responsible for their actions, but banning is probably not a punishment for them."

Though if their motivations were noble, we suspect there's a better way to get your point across than putting a penis on the side of a balloon in a game that's popular with children.
