Another week, another madcap sighting on Mars. This time around, eagle-eyed voyeurs have spotted a Martian menagerie in an image taken by NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover.

Youtube channel Mister Enigma recently posted a video on the image, describing the sight as “a gorilla, or bear-type creature, or maybe even a statue of a creature” next to a “baby or cub.”

They went on to explain this find: “There are many theories of the origins of Earth coming from our next door neighbour, Mars. So it is very well possible that these could be a type of Martian bear.”

Needless to say, there are far more logical explanations. As with many of these sightings, it’s likely to be a case of pareidolia – a psychological quirk that causes humans to find the familiar in the unfamiliar. You can read more about this trick of the mind here.
