Buzz Aldrin has been evacuated from the South Pole after falling ill during a trip.

But, according to the National Science Foundation, the 86-year-old former astronaut was medically evacuated after being described as "ailing".
Aldrin was flown out by an LC-130 cargo plane from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. He was taken to McMurdo Station on the Antarctic coast, and then to New Zealand.
The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators said that he was flown out as a precaution after his condition “deteriorated”, but he is now stable.
It’s not entirely clear what happened yet, but here’s hoping everything turned out okay. Earlier, Buzz had tweeted a couple of times about his trip, and seemed in good spirits before the incident.
