A mother grey whale succeeded in defending her calf from a group of killer whales on April 30. This aerial footage shows the orcas making their move, and was observed by passengers aboard a Monterey Bay Whale Watch trip.

Nancy Black told KSBW: “The grey whale mom was very good at protecting her calf … The grey whale mom took her calf and swam very fast to the beach shoreline and saved her calf.” The calf was hurt after the attack but survived, according to reports.
