The winners of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2021 have been revealed in all their ridiculous splendor. This year’s top prize was awarded to Ken Jensen, an amateur photographer from the UK for his amazing photograph of a Golden Silk Monkey ungracefully caught in an unfortunate slip-up, aptly titled “Ouch!”

Ken explains that he took the image back in 2016 while on holiday in southwestern Chinese province Yunnan. While groups of monkeys were playing and acting inquisitively towards the tourists, this particular monkey was acting particularly aggressively. However, they quickly received a dose of instant karma, slipping on the wire and landing in an uncomfortable position.

"It is a great feeling to know that one’s image is making people smile globally as well as helping to support some fantastically worthwhile conservation causes,” Ken remarked when hearing about his success in the competition.

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards was started in 2015 with the hopes of creating a competition that promoted wildlife conservation through humor. This year, the competition is donating 10 percent of its total net revenue to Save Wild Orangutans, a charity that helps to protect wild orangutans in and around Gunung Palung National Park in Borneo.

The Affinity Photo People’s Choice Award, voted for by the public, was awarded to John Speirs for his shot taken in windy Scotland of a pigeon with an autumn leaf blown into its face, titled “I Guess Summer’s Over!” Other winners include Chee Kee Teo for their image “Time for School” of a young otter and its mother, which won the Creatures Under the Sea Award, and Vicki Jauron for their photo “The Joy of a Mud Bath,” a series of images showing a young elephant playing in the mud in Zimbabwe, which won the Amazing Internet Portfolio Award.
