Can You Flush A Toilet With Liquid Mercury? Kind Of

Cody's Lab/YouTube

It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point or another: What would happen if you used mercury to flush your toilet?

Well, with 109 kilograms (240 pounds) of liquid mercury at his disposal, Cody'sLab is here to answer all your questions. He even goes to the hassle of buying a new toilet for the experiment.

First thing’s first, he pours a small amount of mercury straight down the toilet bowl and attempts to flush it with water. But not content with that little experiment, he proceeds to pour pints of mercury into the toilet’s tank, meaning the toilet will flush with mercury instead of water.

If you do ever get your hands on hundreds of pounds of mercury, don’t try this at home. Besides being toxic, it doesn’t look like it will do your toilet any good.
